  • The International Paralympic Committee has allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their national flags at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics. Russia has been allotted six quota places across Para-alpine skiing, Para cross-country skiing and Para-snowboard, while Belarus received four slots in Para cross-country skiing.
  • The decision marks a reversal of restrictions imposed in 2022, when athletes were barred from competing under national symbols. Earlier sanctions followed a state-sponsored doping scandal and geopolitical tensions.
  • Under the new ruling, medal ceremonies will feature national flags and anthems for podium finishes. However, the decision applies only to the Winter Paralympics and does not automatically extend to the 2026 Winter Olympics.
