International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is celebrated every year on 13 October to increase awareness about disasters and minimize losses from disasters.
The day serves as a platform to create awareness, educate communities and promote resilience in the face of natural and man-made disasters.
The theme of this day for the year 2023 has been 'Fighting inequality for a resilient future'.
This day shows dedication to the 'Sendai Framework' signed in the year 2015.
'The United Nations Sendai Framework Conference was held in Japan in the year 2015.
The celebration of this day was announced by the United Nations General Assembly in the year 1989.
