  • India is set to commission INS Aridhaman, the third Arihant-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, by April–May after completing sea trials. Built under the ATV project at Visakhapatnam, the 7,000-tonne submarine is larger than INS Arihant and INS Arighaat. It will carry K-15 (750 km) and K-4 (3,500 km) submarine-launched ballistic missiles, strengthening India’s second-strike capability.
  • With three operational SSBNs, India moves closer to Continuous At-Sea Deterrence (CASD), ensuring round-the-clock nuclear patrols. The submarine will likely be based at Project Varsha near Visakhapatnam. This induction strengthens the sea-based leg of India’s nuclear triad and enhances its strategic deterrence in the Indo-Pacific region.
