Indian Railways has sanctioned infrastructure projects worth ₹1,236 crore to strengthen communication networks and expand the indigenous Kavach train protection system. A major share includes ₹623.63 crore for Central Railway’s dual-path optical fibre network (OPGW and underground cables) across multiple divisions for redundancy and uninterrupted connectivity.
Western Railway received ₹302.26 crore for fibre connectivity in Gujarat. Additionally, ₹310.18 crore is allocated for deploying Kavach 4.0 across 548 km in Southern Railway to enhance safety by preventing collisions. Surplus fibre capacity will be monetized by leasing dark fibre to telecom providers, improving revenue and digital infrastructure.
