The country's first dedicated Business Fisheries Incubator, which will be known as LINAC-NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Center (LIFIC), has been inaugurated by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Purushottam Rupala in Gurugram, Haryana.
This incubator has been built at a cost of Rs 3.23 crore.
The LIFIC's implementing agency, the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), has identified the first batch of ten incubates from four states: Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
Six of them are from newly formed fish farmer producer organisations, which are assisted by financial grants under the scheme.
Fisheries is a booming industry in India, growing at a 7% annual rate. In total, there are approximately 30,000 cooperatives in the fisheries sector.
