Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)’s first overseas defence manufacturing facility in Berrechid, Morocco. Spanning 20,000 square metres, this state-of-the-art plant is the first Indian private defence facility established in Africa. The facility will produce the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) 8x8, jointly designed by TASL and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The WhAP 8x8 is a versatile combat vehicle that can be configured as an infantry fighting vehicle, armoured personnel carrier, reconnaissance vehicle, command post, mortar carrier, ambulance, or a remote weapon station.
