  • India has designated its mission in Dhaka as a non-family posting as a precautionary step following rising security concerns and threats of mob violence against Indian establishments, officials said.
  • The decision comes amid a deteriorating law-and-order situation in Bangladesh and increasing tensions ahead of the February 12 elections. Indian authorities clarified that the move is preventive and will not affect diplomatic or consular operations.
  • The step follows a series of incidents after the killing of Islamist leader Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12. Allegations that the suspects fled to India triggered protests and threats against Indian missions in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, and Rajshahi.
Similar protest incidents were reported in Agartala, Kolkata, and New Delhi, further straining bilateral ties.
