India has overtaken China to become the world’s largest rice producer, with output reaching 150.18 million tonnes, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced. The milestone highlights India’s transformation into a global foodgrain leader and a key player in agricultural exports. The announcement coincided with the release of 184 new crop varieties by ICAR, aimed at boosting yield, climate resilience, and food security through seed innovation and crop diversification.
