  • India’s first national-level Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) has been developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj to assess the overall development and progress of 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats across 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • In the PAI 2022–23 rankings, 699 Gram Panchayats have been categorized in the top performance tier, with Gujarat and Telangana leading in terms of panchayat development.
