  • The government released the much-awaited draft of the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules on 3 January 2025, clarifying that social media or online platforms will have to take verifiable consent of parents before children create any account.
  • Further, according to the draft rules, the identity and age of parents will also have to be validated and verified through a voluntarily provided identity proof, which "shall be issued by any entity entrusted by law or the government".
