The government appointed Poonam Gupta as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on April 1, 2025.
Dr. Gupta will take over from Michael Debprata Patra, who retired from the position about two months ago.
She is currently serving as the Director General of the National Council for Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
She is also a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council and the Convener of the Advisory Council of the 16th Finance Commission.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Gupta's appointment as Deputy Governor of the RBI for a period of three years from the date he assumes office.
