Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been appointed the new Finance Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, replacing Tuhin Kanta Pandey.
The position of Finance Secretary became vacant after Tuhin Kant Pandey was appointed as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Senior bureaucrat Ajay is known for his expertise in management. Ajay Seth played a key role in formulating the country's economic policies while serving as Secretary of Economic Affairs.
He was also awarded the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2013.
Ajay Seth holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee and an MBA from Antonia de Manila University.
Seth has over 30 years of experience in finance, taxation, and administration in the social sector.
