  • Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been appointed the new Finance Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, replacing Tuhin Kanta Pandey. 
  • The position of Finance Secretary became vacant after Tuhin Kant Pandey was appointed as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). 
  • Senior bureaucrat Ajay is known for his expertise in management. Ajay Seth played a key role in formulating the country's economic policies while serving as Secretary of Economic Affairs. 
  • He was also awarded the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2013. 
  • Ajay Seth holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee and an MBA from Antonia de Manila University. 
  • Seth has over 30 years of experience in finance, taxation, and administration in the social sector.
