Senior diplomat Gourangalal Das, a 1999 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to South Korea. Currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) heading the East Asia Division, Das has been instrumental in strengthening India’s diplomatic engagements in the region. He played a key role in India-China negotiations to ease tensions from the over four-year-long eastern Ladakh border standoff and has extensive experience in East Asian affairs.
