  • The Collector cum District Magistrate of Ganjam district in Odisha declared the district as Child marriage free district.
  • Ganjam in Odisha has become the first district in the state to declare itself child marriage-free.
  • The district administration has been able to stop as many as 450 child marriages and video-record 48,383 marriages in two years — 2020 and 2021.
  • Ganjam has launched a campaign called Nirbhaya Kadhi (Fearless Bud) to prevent child marriages.
  • Also, the Ganjam administration has made the Aadhar card mandatory for any marriage.
