  • India achieved a major milestone in its first human spaceflight mission as the drogue parachute for the Gaganyaan programme successfully passed qualification-level load testing. The test was conducted at DRDO’s Rail Track Rocket Sledge facility in Chandigarh in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organisation.
  • The parachute was tested under loads higher than actual flight conditions, validating its strength and safety margins. DRDO labs including ADRDE and TBRL, along with ISRO’s VSSC, contributed to the effort. The drogue parachute is crucial for stabilising and slowing the crew module during re-entry. This success strengthens India’s preparedness for crewed missions and advances the goal of self-reliance in space technology.
