France has been provisionally chosen to host the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, with major events to be held in the regions of Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur.
The French government's approval is contingent on providing financial guarantees, which are currently delayed due to recent elections and the formation of a new government after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This will be the fourth time France hosts the Winter Olympics, with the last occasion being in Albertville in 1992. President Emmanuel Macron has pledged full national support for the Games.
