  • The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) under the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India on vaccine cold chain management, digitization of communication scheme and capacity building.
  • The MoU was signed by Alka Upadhyay, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Caitlin Wissen, UNDP Resident Representative in India in New Delhi.
  • India has a huge population and livestock population with 142.86 crore people, 53.57 crore agricultural cattle and 85.18 crore poultry population. 
  • To keep these animals healthy, the government has started vaccination programs so that humans can be protected from zoonotic diseases, such as bird flu and coronavirus.
