The Union Cabinet, chaired by Narendra Modi, approved the creation of the Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool (BMI Pool) with a sovereign guarantee of ₹12,980 crore. It aims to ensure affordable maritime insurance for Indian trade, even in volatile regions. The move reduces dependence on international P&I insurance providers for third-party liabilities.
