The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri is also celebrated on 2 October.
He was born on 2 October 1904 AD in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh.
When Shastri ji became the Prime Minister, there was a food crisis in India.
In 1965, there was war with Pakistan on one side and terrible drought on the other.
It was during his tenure as Prime Minister that India defeated Pakistan badly.
He died in 1966 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
He was awarded Bharat Ratna in the year 1966 for exceptional services.
