Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has initiated the process of winding down the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the world’s largest philanthropic organisations. The foundation is expected to close by 2045 after spending nearly $200 billion. It has announced a record $9 billion budget for 2026 and plans to reduce up to 500 staff positions over the next five years.
