  • After a substantial increase in the number of tigers in Bihar, the state government has now decided to set up a 'Rhino Task Force' to suggest measures to reintroduce terrestrial mammals to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district.
  • At present there is only one rhino in VTR and 14 rhinos in Patna Zoo.
  • The number of one-horned rhinoceros in Bihar has increased by 3 per cent annually.
  • "After the resumption of the rhino conservation scheme, there will be a significant increase in the number of rhinos in the VTR.
  • The VTR has been selected as one of the potential sites under the National Rhino Conservation Strategy, where rhinos can be brought from other reserves in the country.
