  • A four-team Intercontinental Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar from June 9 to 18.
  • This will be the third edition of the tournament with the previous two being held in Mumbai (2018) and Ahmedabad (2019).
  • The four-team football tournament will be played in the FIFA international window. The competition was introduced in 2018 to replace the Nehru Cup.
  • Besides hosts India, Lebanon, Mongolia and Vanuatu will be the other three teams participating in the tournament.
  • India are ranked 101 in the latest FIFA rankings while Lebanon are the highest ranked side in the tournament at 99. Meanwhile, Vanuatu and Mongolia are ranked 164 and 183, respectively.
  • India won the inaugural edition of the tournament held in 2018 but finished fourth in the second edition in 2019, which was won by North Korea.
  • The Intercontinental Cup 2023 will precede the 14th SAFF men’s football championship, scheduled from June 21 to July 3, 2023, in Bangalore.
