  • A routine under-13 cricket match in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, turned tragic when a swarm of bees attacked players and officials at Rahul Sapru Ground. Around 40–50 people were stung, causing panic and disruption during the morning fixture between teams from Kanpur and Lucknow.
  • Veteran umpire Manik Gupta, associated with the Kanpur Cricket Association, collapsed after being repeatedly stung. He was rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
  • Authorities are investigating the cause of the swarm’s aggression, while the incident has raised concerns over safety arrangements at grassroots sporting events.
