The Assam government has granted permission for the establishment of a second wildlife sanctuary in Assam's Barak Valley.
Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi has given his approval for the creation of Barak Bhuban Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Barak Bhuban Wildlife Sanctuary in Barak Valley will spread across an area of 320 sq km between the Barak River and the Sonai River.
Notably, the Barak Valley located in Southern Assam houses a plethora of birds and mammals and the new wildlife sanctuary will also be home to king cobra.
Assam's first sanctuary 'Borel Wildlife Sanctuary' is in Barak Valley itself.
