  • The Assam government has granted permission for the establishment of a second wildlife sanctuary in Assam's Barak Valley. 
  • Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi has given his approval for the creation of Barak Bhuban Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • The Barak Bhuban Wildlife Sanctuary in Barak Valley will spread across an area of 320 sq km between the Barak River and the Sonai River.
  • Notably, the Barak Valley located in Southern Assam houses a plethora of birds and mammals and the new wildlife sanctuary will also be home to king cobra.
  • Assam's first sanctuary 'Borel Wildlife Sanctuary' is in Barak Valley itself.
