Indian middle-distance runner and national record-holder Jinson Johnson has announced his retirement from competitive athletics. The 34-year-old athlete from Kerala achieved his career highlight by winning gold in the 1500 metres at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games with a time of 3:44.72, along with a silver medal in the 800 metres at the same event.
In 2018, he also surpassed the 42-year-old national record held by Sriram Singh in the men’s 800 metres, clocking 1:45.65 at the National Inter-State Championship in Guwahati.
