  • Heavyweight boxer Kaur Singh, the lone home boxer to land a gold medal in the 1982 New Delhi Asian Games and who was also known for his exhibition bout with the legendary Muhammad Ali in 1980, passed away.
  • He was 74 and was undergoing treatment for multiple health problems.
  • Kaur Singh was the first from the Sikh Regiment to get the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri. 
  • He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 1982 and Padma Shri in 1983.
  • He also competed in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
  • He also coached Punjab Police at the Hyderabad National championships in 2007.
