  • The Gut Microbiota and Probiotic Science Foundation organised the 16th India Probiotic Symposium on “Gut Microbiome and Probiotics: Impact from Cradle to Centenarians” in New Delhi on March 27–28, 2026. Chief Guest Shri Rajiv Gauba, Member of NITI Aayog, highlighted the critical role of gut microbiome in immunity, metabolism, and preventive healthcare. He expressed concern over the shift towards ultra-processed foods and its impact on public health, noting that 56.4% of India’s disease burden is linked to unhealthy diets.
  • Shri Gauba emphasised the need to combine India’s traditional fermented foods with modern microbiome research to develop clinically validated probiotics. He called for greater use of generic medicines, digital health tools, and AI while urging caution against misinformation in the supplements market. The symposium focused on advancing probiotic science for reducing disease burden and promoting healthy aging in line with Viksit Bharat goals.
