Padma Awards

The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian honors in India, conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognize exceptional contributions in various fields, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.

The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, the Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and the Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced every year on Republic Day and are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, usually around March or April.

For the year 2026, the President has approved the conferment of 131 Padma Awards, which include two duo cases (each counted as one award). This list comprises 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. Among the awardees, 19 are women, 6 are foreigners, NRIs, PIOs, or OCIs, and 16 awards have been given posthumously, reflecting the diverse contributions of individuals across the country and beyond.
