There are 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India that are recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as of 2020. These UNESCO Heritage sites of India are places of importance of cultural or natural heritage. India has now 40 World Heritage Sites listed by UNESCO and that makes India one of the top countries globally in terms of a number of world heritage sites. UNESCO identifies World Heritage Sites as places that belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located.
