RRB ALP CBT-2 (2026): Notification, Eligibility, Exam Pattern, vacancies, Important dates

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) conduct the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) recruitment under Notification CEN 01/2026 to hire train drivers across Indian Railways. Eligibility requires candidates aged 18–30 to hold a Class 10th (SSLC) pass alongside an ITI, relevant 3-year Diploma, or B.E./B.Tech degree, in addition to meeting strict A-1 medical vision standards. The selection process follows a multi-stage model: screening via CBT 1, main technical testing via CBT 2, a Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), and final Document Verification with Medical Examination. Under the latest notification guidelines, General Awareness has been removed from CBT 1, focusing solely on Mathematics, Reasoning, and General Science. Additionally, the final merit calculation has been updated to give equal weightage—50% each—to CBT 2 Part A and the CBAT score. 

Educational Qualifications for Railway RRB ALP Exam:

 Railway RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot)

Matriculation or SSLC plus ITI from NCVT/SCVT recognized institutes in the trades of Armature and Coil Winder/ Fitter/ Heat Engine/ Electrician /Electronics Mechanic /Instrument Mechanic /Mechanic Motor Vehicle/ Machinist /Mechanic Diesel /Millwright Maintenance Mechanic /Radio & TV Mechanic /Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (AC) Mechanic /Turner /Wireman /Tractor Mechanic (OR) Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trades after completing matriculation or SSLC course. (OR) A three-year diploma in Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automobile Engineering (OR) a combination of these Engineering disciplines from a recognized institution in lieu of an ITI.

Note: A degree in the above-mentioned engineering disciplines will be accepted in lieu of a diploma in engineering.

Age limit for Railway RRB ALP Exam

The age limit of the applicants should be from 18 years to 30 years (as on 01-07-2026) and relaxations in age will be as per the rules.

Scheme of Railway RRB ALP and Technician Selection Procedure:

The procedure of recruitment will be divided into four stages:

• First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-1)

• Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-2) 

• Computer Based Aptitude Test (for ALP)

• Document Verification

Railway RRB ALP and Technician First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-1)

Important Note:

I. The questions on the papers will be of the multiple-choice type.  

II. Each incorrect answer will 1/3^rd marks deduction.

III. There are a total of 75 questions.

IV. Section wise number of questions not yet defined. 

Eligibility Criteria for Qualifying:

Minimum percentage of marks required for eligibility in various categories:

• UR - 40 percent

• OBC - 30 percent

• SC - 30 percent

• ST - 25 percent

These percentages of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PWD candidates if there is a shortage of PWD candidates to fill seats reserved for them.

The relevant trades for various engineering disciplines or HSC (10+2) for sitting in the qualifying test are as follows:

Computer Based Aptitude Test (Only for candidates who have opted for ALP)

• Candidates must pass each of the Computer Based Aptitude Test batteries in order to be considered for the position of ALP.

• The Computer Based Aptitude Test will only include questions and answers in English and Hindi.

• In Computer Based Aptitude Test, there will be no negative marking.

• To qualify, the candidate must obtain at least 42 marks on each of the test batteries. This applies to all candidates, and no exceptions are permitted.

• The ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) merit list will be drawn only from applicants who pass the Aptitude Test, with 70 percent weightage given to marks acquired in Part A of the Second Stage CBT and 30 percent given to marks obtained in Computer Based Aptitude Test.

Document Verification for Railway RRB ALP and Technician

• Candidates who pass all stages are invited by the various RRBs for document verification.

• On the day of document verification, candidates must bring the genuine documents requested by RRBs.

• If a candidate fails to submit original documents or if a document is found to be faked, his or her participation will be terminated.

Part-B:

Fee Payable by Candidates for Railway RRB ALP and Technician Exam:

Fee all candidates: Rs. 500/-

EWS/ SC/ ST/ Ex-Serviceman/ PWDs/ Female/ Minorities/ Transgender: Rs. 250/- 

Note: This amount of Rs. 250 will be returned after deducting any applicable bank charges when you appear in the First Stage CBT.

Payment Method:

Through only ONLINE payment of fees using online banking, debit card/credit card, or UPI. There will be no option to pay fee through any other mode.

All required service fees must be borne by the candidate.
