World War Orphans Day is celebrated every year on 6 January.
This day is celebrated to spread awareness about the plight of war orphans and the painful conditions they face.
World War Orphans Day was started by the French organization S.O.S.
UNICEF reports that there are more than 140 million orphans worldwide.
Of these, maximum 61 million orphans are in the continent of Asia.
An 'orphan' is defined by UNICEF as a child under the age of 18 years who has lost one or both parents due to any cause of death.
The theme of World War Orphans Day for the year 2024 has been kept as 'Orphan Lives Matter'.
