  • World Thalassemia Day is observed globally on May 8th each year to raise awareness about thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder characterized by abnormal haemoglobin production.
  • The day aims to educate people about the importance of early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention methods for thalassemia, as well as to show support for those living with the condition. 
  • Thalassemia Day also serves as a platform to advocate for improved access to healthcare services and research initiatives to combat the disease. 
  • Throughout the day, various events, campaigns, and educational programs are organized by healthcare organizations, patient advocacy groups, and communities worldwide to promote understanding and support for individuals affected by thalassemia.
  • The theme of the event this year is” Empowering Lives, Embracing Progress: Equitable and Accessible Thalassaemia Treatment for All.”
