World Braille Day is observed on 4 January to mark the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, inventor of the Braille system. The day highlights the importance of accessibility, equality and independent living for persons with visual impairment. Invented in 1824, Braille’s six-dot tactile system remains vital for education, literacy and social inclusion worldwide. In India, awareness programmes reinforced Braille’s continuing role in empowering the visually impaired and promoting dignity and human rights.
