The WHO Global Report 2025 shows global tobacco use has fallen from 1.38 billion (2000) to 1.2 billion (2024), with adult prevalence dropping to 19.5%. Women have led the decline, while male reduction remains slower. However, e-cigarette use is rising, with over 100 million users worldwide, including 15 million adolescents, posing a major public health challenge. In India, 243 million adults use tobacco, but a 43% reduction is projected by 2025 due to policies like COTPA and the Prohibition of E-Cigarettes Act. The report urges stronger action against vaping and uneven male smoking declines to achieve global tobacco control targets.
