Vaishnavi Adkar Reaches W100 Final, Creates History

  • Indian tennis star Vaishnavi Adkar became the first Indian woman since Sania Mirza (2009) to reach a W100 singles final at the ITF Women’s Open in Bengaluru. Entering as a wildcard and ranked World No. 690, the Pune-born player stunned higher-ranked opponents before finishing runner-up to Belgium’s Hanne Vandewinkel.
  • She earned 65 WTA points and $8,147, boosting her live ranking by over 200 places to around World No. 466. Born in Pune in 2004, Adkar is a former India No. 1 Under-14 and ITF junior World No. 115. In 2025, she won the Fenesta Nationals and secured bronze at the World University Games, ending India’s 46-year medal drought. Mentored by Rohan Bopanna, Adkar now aims to represent India at the Billie Jean King Cup, marking a new chapter for Indian women’s tennis.
