US Approves $200 Million Security Aid for Baltic States Amid Rising Tensions

The United States Congress has approved a $200 million security assistance package for Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania under the FY2026 Defence Appropriations Act. Signed into law on 3 February 2026, the funding ensures continued support for the Baltic Security Initiative despite earlier Pentagon discussions about ending the programme. The move reinforces Washington’s commitment to NATO’s eastern allies amid growing concerns over Russian military activity. The aid will enhance military preparedness, interoperability with NATO forces, and defence modernisation in the Baltic region.
