Telangana's Medaram Jatara: A Celebration of Tribal Culture and Spirituality

  • Sammakka Saralamma Jatara or Medaram Jatara is a tribal festival of honor to the gods and goddesses celebrated in the state of Telangana
  • Held from February 21 to 24 this year, the festival pays tribute to the revered goddess Sammakka and Saralamma, and is celebrated biennially on the full moon day in the month of Magha (February).
  • The Jatara festival is held every year on the full moon day of the month of February, which pays homage to the revered goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma.
  • The celebration promotes understanding and harmony among tribal communities and preserves their unique traditions and culture.
  • Tourists participating in the festival come from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
  • The local government has arranged a total of ₹110 crore for the conduct of the festival and provided transport facilities for the passengers, such as RTC buses and special trains.
