Tamil Nadu Launches Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme to Promote Women-Led Businesses

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has launched the Tamil Nadu Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme (TWEES) to promote women-led businesses in the state. Designed by the MSME Department, the initiative aims to encourage one lakh women to take up entrepreneurship over the next five years. The scheme will provide institutional support, training and financial assistance to aspiring women entrepreneurs, improving employment generation and strengthening local economic development.
  • During the launch event at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated welfare centres for construction workers and elderly citizens. He laid the foundation for three new Industrial Training Institutes to be built at a cost of ₹27 crore. Medical infrastructure projects worth ₹167 crore were inaugurated, and warehousing facilities with 60,000 metric tonnes capacity are to be constructed by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation at a cost of ₹78 crore.
  • The Chief Minister released the Tiruchirappalli Master Plan 2045 and the Thoothukudi Master Plan 2045 for long-term urban development. Infrastructure projects worth ₹100 crore were inaugurated for the fisheries sector. Conservation projects including a Mangrove Conservation Centre at Pichavaram and an International Migratory Bird Centre at Marakkanam were also announced. The government reported distributing 23.56 lakh land pattas and housing 8.66 lakh families in the past five years.
