Rare Amphipod Species 'Stenothoe lowryi' Found in India for First Time

  • Berhampur University researchers discovered 'Stenothoe lowryi' at Arjyapalli, Ganjam district, Odisha.
  • Previously reported only from Malaysia; this is its first recorded occurrence in Indian waters.
  • Eight specimens collected from rocky coastal habitats; species measures approximately 5.5 mm in length.
  • Findings published in the 'Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom'.
  • The team earlier discovered 'Grandidierella geetanjalae' (Chilika) and 'Parhyale odian' (named after Odia language).
