India’s Ramesh Budihal made sporting history by winning a bronze medal in the Open men’s category at the Asian Surfing Championships held in Mamallapuram, marking the country’s first-ever individual medal in the competition. The 24-year-old surfer scored 12.60 points in the final, finishing behind South Korea’s Kanoa Heejae (15.17) and Indonesia’s Pajar Ariyana (14.57). Budihal’s strong start, including a 6.17 score on his opening wave, kept him in contention before the lead was taken by the South Korean competitor. This milestone could also help India secure additional quotas for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
