Published on: March 01 2024 Share on facebook

  • Peru's government has declared a health emergency in 20 of the 25 regions due to a sharp rise in dengue fever cases, with more than 31,000 cases and 32 deaths reported.
  • This announcement will facilitate the speedy transfer of funds and the easing of medical personnel such as doctors and nurses to the affected areas.
  •  The rise in dengue cases due to the impact of high temperatures and heavy rains since 2023 is considered as an effect of El Niño weather patterns that have promoted warmer seas near Peru's coasts, leading to increased mosquito breeding.
