Parliament passes Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill 2023

Parliament has passed the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill 2023, Rajya Sabha approved it on July 1, 2023. The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill.
The Bill seeks to promote research on medicinal plants, encourage production of plant-based medicines and benefit local persons involved in the use of forest produce.
The Bill amends the Biodiversity Act, 2002 to simplify compliance requirements for domestic companies.
This bill will strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission life and call for sustainable living.
This will greatly benefit the tribal people and take the traditional medicinal knowledge of India to the world.
The Bill aims to simplify the patent application process and expedite patent applications.
