OpenAI has released two new open-weight language models—gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b—that are optimized to operate locally on systems with just 16GB RAM. These models allow developers to inspect and understand the internal processing logic (weights), though they do not support multimedia generation like images or videos. They can also redirect queries to more advanced, closed OpenAI models when required.
