New Rare Ant Species Discovered Near Guwahati

Scientists have discovered a new ant species, Polyrhachis garbhangaensis, in the Garbhanga Reserve Forest near Guwahati, highlighting hidden biodiversity in urban-edge forests. The species belongs to a rare group of spiny ants and is only the third of its kind recorded in India. Researchers say the finding reinforces the conservation value of city-adjacent forest corridors.
