  • National Technology Day is celebrated on May 11 every year to honour the contributions of India’s scientific community including scientists, researchers and engineers.
  • The National Technology Day is celebrated on 11 May to commemorate the anniversary of the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests. 
  • These tests were a series of five explosions conducted under the guidance of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range.
  • On 11 May 1998, India tested its first indigenous aircraft Hansa-3 which was meant for pilot training, surveillance, and reconnaissance purposes in Bangalore. 
  • Successful test firing of surface-to-air missile, Trishul was also performed on the same day.
