  • पिछले दस वर्षों से देश में 27 नवंबर को 'भारतीय अंगदान दिवस' के रूप में मनाया जाता रहा है।
  • इस दिन का उद्देश्य लोगों से मरने के बाद अपने स्वस्थ अंगों को देने का आग्रह करना है ताकि और लोगों की जान बचाई जा सके। अंग दान, जैसे कि गुर्दे, हृदय, अग्न्याशय, आंखें और फेफड़े, पुरानी बीमारियों वाले लोगों के जीवन को बचाने में मदद कर सकते हैं।
  • भारत में, अंगदान परंपरागत रूप से बेहद कम रहा है।
  • 1954 में, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने पहला सफल जीवित दाता अंग प्रत्यारोपण किया था।
  • 1990 में, डॉक्टर जोसेफ मरे को जुड़वां भाइयों रोनाल्ड और रिचर्ड हेरिक पर एक सफल गुर्दा प्रत्यारोपण करने के लिए फिजियोलॉजी या मेडिसिन में नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है।
