NISAR, the first Earth observation satellite jointly developed by NASA and ISRO, is scheduled for launch on July 30 at 5:40 PM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. It will be deployed using the GSLV-F16 rocket into a 743-kilometre sun-synchronous orbit with a 98.4-degree inclination. Weighing 2,392 kg, NISAR is equipped with dual-frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar (L-band from NASA and S-band from ISRO), integrated into ISRO’s modified I3K satellite bus and supported by NASA’s 12-meter unfurlable mesh reflector — a pioneering technology for detailed Earth monitoring.
