Micro snail species discovered in Meghalaya’s Mawsmai cave

  • A new species of micro snail has been discovered deep inside a limestone cave in Mawsmai Village, Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills area. The scientists who found the species on October 21, 2021, shared the news.
  • The newly discovered snails, dubbed 'Georissa Mawsmaiensis' by scientists, are so little that an adult measures less than 2 millimetres in length.
  • NA Aravind and Nipu Kumar Das of the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) in Bangalore made the latest discovery.
