Meghalaya has enriched India’s biodiversity with the discovery of two jumping spider species, Asemonea dentis and Colyttus nongwar, by Zoological Survey of India scientists. Found in the State’s forests, these species are rare representatives of their respective genera in India. Asemonea dentis features a tooth-like projection on the male palpal femur, while Colyttus nongwar is named after Nongwar village. The findings, published in Zootaxa, highlight Meghalaya’s ecological significance and the need for continued exploration of Northeast India’s rich, underdocumented biodiversity.
